A GREAT TIME WAS HAD BY ALL!

Our successes at this year's fundraiser were not only the financial, food and friendship aspects, but also, a great and important success regarding cohesion of our partisan bodies.  It was genuinely our pleasure this year to have our town's Democrats represented.

We no longer have room in our town's government for the nay-sayers and poison-penn-sayers.  The recent joining of our democratic friends is proof that we are willing and wanting to work together. We are one town, one community and one government and it was gratifying to know that the new DTC regime wants to work together, for the good of the people.  Our commonalities for the respect of Woodstock, lobster rolls, steak and raffle prizes was a well-traveled bridge!

It was a pleasure to relax with friends and patriots in the casual atmosphere of Nahaco; the lake, the company, the fishing, the grilling, the dicing and slicing, and most of all, the comradery. Everyone enjoyed the speeches by our First Selectman, Mr. Walker, and our Local Incumbent Representative, Mike Alberts.  We all wish Mr. Alberts success and thank him for his common-sense campaign gift!

So, when asked if our RTC Lobster and Steak was successful, the answer is a resounding yes! We were all filled with food, friendship and respect. We are so proud to have had such a cohesive, non-partisan group this year and to have raised funds at the same time.

THE DEMISE OF THE OFFICE OF ATTORNEY GENERAL

Putnam, Connecticut - When the office of Attorney General was created in 1899, the position was described as being the chief legal officer of the state. In recent years, it has been difficult to distinguish the office of Attorney General from the Commissioner of Consumer Protection. The Spitzer-Blumenthal approach is to be on television at least weekly expounding on some injustice perpetrated on the state's residents. Some people feel this approach involves the creation of an anti-business atmosphere which deters businesses and industries from locating or expanding in Connecticut. It certainly makes Susan Bysiewicz's desire to run for the office without much experience as a practicing attorney more understandable.

It is time for the office to be returned to its original purpose and the attorney general to furnish advice to the governor, legislature and other major state departments. This would improve the functioning of the state government and restore the feeling among the citizenry that the opinions are not impacted by political ambition. Cynicism about government is rampant and the recommended approach would reduce it.
